R-12 to R-134

So how do you convert your r-12 to r-134. Do you need a new compressor? What kind of parts do you have to change out? Are there kits you can by? Or should just stay with R-12. Thanks

Usually you replace the R-12 coolant with R-134 change the o-ring seals. This job require a proffessional.

usually you can just charge it with a charging kit, and make sure you use a couple of oil and o ring cans. I just did this yesterday, too bad my AC has a huge freaking hole in it.

Going from R12 to R134 is not the problem that everyone thought it would be 10 yrs ago. R134 runs at a slightly higher pressure than R12 but not enough that you have to replace the expansion valve or expansion tube. R134 is a blended refrigerant so therefore you only use 80% of what your R12 calls for. The biggest problem is the incompatability with certain types of compressor oils. Flush you system with an A/C flush, change your compressor oil, add the R134 and be on your way.
