I have a 99 Wrangler Sport. I am interested in knowing about the axle ratio in this Jeep. I have gotten mixed specs as far as the axle ratio goes. Does anyone know the factory axle ratio or can advise me where to look for a code that will tell me?

Re: 99 Wrangler axle ratio
Just look at the metal tag on the outside of the diff cover. What size engine does your jeep have?

Re: 99 Wrangler axle ratio
It is the 4.0L with a 5 speed. I didn't know about the tag. I will go check on that right now. Will let you know what I find.
OK, just checked the tags. To my surprise, the Jeep is equipped with 3.07 gears. Go figure. Thanks for the help with the tag. But why do you think they put such a high geared rear end in a manual transmission? |

Re: 99 Wrangler axle ratio
Here's my guess. The 3.07 is the std ratio for the 6-cyl manual tranny. The 3.73 is the HD towing package for the 6-cyl manual tranny. The 3.55 is for the 6-cyl auto and the 4.10 is for the 4-cyl.
