T3? or T4?- for custom setup

i've heard that the T3 turbos and sometimes T4 are the best way to go when doing a custom setup. What cars come with these turbos factory installed? I've found a junkyard list with the cars that have factory turbos.....but I'm getting names like....Garrett TB3043 or Mitsubishi TD05 or Garrett TB3063. I'm assuming that those two Garretts would be "T3" turbos by the name??? .....but I'm not sure....any help? How can I distinguish the difference??

t4 on a d series motor would be way too big. the d series doesn't have enough exhaust pressure to power the t4, so you'll have major turbo lag, and boost will only come on at redline.

Turbo's are completely universal. Any T3/T4 turbo will generally be the same and work just fine. When you hear talk about turbo setups made for specific vehicles, they're talking about the KIT, not the turbo itself. Kits are made for certain vehicles, and contain piping, brackets, hoses, and other accessories that make installing the turbo on that specific car MUCH easier. But you could theoretically take ANY turbo from ANY car and custom fabricate all of the necessary accessories and make it work on your car. So yes, ANY t3/t4 hyrbrid turbo would work for that car. The problem arises when you start talking about what you're going to need to install the turbo and make it work properly.

if you're gonna run this turbo on your SOHC, better stick with the T3. even with the T3 there's still a little lag on my car. i bet you'll probably lag up til 25k + on yours even with a T3. still though, good luck. once you're done, you'll love the PSSSHHH sound.:smoker:
