Mercon V

Has anyone tried Amsoil Universal ATF or Mobil 1 universal ATF. I have a 1999 Windstar which uses mercon v and both these fluids are mercon and mercon V compatible. What other mercon V fluids do you guys use and recommend?

Thanks, DTF

Re: Mercon V

Amsoil Universal ATF is in ALL our Ford vehicles, and all 3 Volvo's as well.

Re: Mercon V

I just picked up quaker state synthetic ATF which is compatible with dexron III, Allison C4 and Ford Mercon V, has any one tried this fluid. Will it cause any harm to my windstar tranny, or is it better to just stick with the ford Mercon V fluid from the dealer. I am thinking of returning this Quaker State fluid just to be safe, any opinions?

Thanks,

DTF

Eeewwww...... Quaker State.

Seriously, the Amsoil is the best ever! I would choose Ford Merc 5 over the Quaker State.

It is hard to beat dealer type fluid that your transmission calls for.
Remember dealer oem parts only hurt one time.
If it calls for mercon v use mercon V.

Re: Mercon V

I've got a sump full of (red bottle) valvoline maxlife multi-spec'd ATF in the AX4N on my 2001. It's what the carquest folks recommended when I asked if they had any merc 5 in stock. It's been in there now for over 10000mi & shifts like butta. Just came back from a ~1500mi high speed HOT road trip with 4 adults, 3 kids and a weeks worth of gear in the winny. Not a lick of trouble (*knock on wood*). 23mpg to boot!
