Exclamation Seriously need some help with seat questions!!

Hey guys,

I am very confused about what I am asking because every person I ask keeps telling me different answers and I really don't know what to do.

Here's the scoop: I have a 1987 Ford F150 with a worn-out bench seat in it. I want to put a pair of racing seats in it instead, kind of like how this guy has his F150 set up:

I already have a set of Otto-R racing seats picked out on eBay.
But what do I do after that? I know I need mounting brackets, but then what?

One guy told me "just get your racing seats, buy the brackets, set the sliding rail all the way back where comfortable, drill holes where-ever the bolts line up, drop a bolt in, go under truck and tighten with a nut" Okay...

Then some other guy told me something about "get a mig welder and fabricate some brackets" and I was so lost by that point I didn't catch the rest of the stuff he said.

I keep getting told different answers! I mean isn't there ONE universal official way that these racing seats go into a fricken 87 F150?! Because apparently there are multiple ways to do it and no one knows how to describe it. Isn't there a guide somewhere? I have been searching and searching and searching and haven't found anything online about how to replace a bench seat with racing/bucket seats.

Can anyone help me? What do I do!?
I'm lost! And I don't feel like paying up the ass to have someone install them when everyone keeps telling me it's "an easy DIY" yet I can't find any good how-to guides!

Please, any detailed help that actually makes sense would be VERY VERY appreciated

Anybody?

Damn, every forum I go to and apparently no one has ever installed bucket/racing seats in a late 80's F150.

Do the seats come with any kind of mounting hardware? If yes, you are going to bolt the sliders to the floor of the truck. You may have to reinforce the location where you would bolt the sliders to. Ask the seller if he can provide you with a copy of the instructions and demensions needed for the mounting location. Contact the seller and ask them, their website is below.

Re: Seriously need some help with seat questions!!

Both the guys you got advice from are right. The way that you install the seats is subject to your abilities with welders, grinders and metal fabrication. The way I would do it is with a mig welder and self-made brackets. If you're not experienced with fabrication, then I would get some brackets, set the seat where I like it, mark the holes and drill through the floorboard and bolt the seat in place, being sure to look under the truck to be sure I am not about to drill through a wiring harness, of course. In conclusion, both ways are right, it just depends on how much you want to fab up. Also, if you bolt the seat down, be sure to use grade eight fasteners, my little brother didn't and had his seat break free in a wreck, luckily he wasn't injured but we had a long discussion about hardware selection afterwards.
