Unhappy Jury service

Many are called,few are chosen..

Just been summoned for jury service for the third time in as many years .....last two times, I didn't even get drawn, let alone challenged in the ten days that I had to attend....still,it's a nightshift and an evening shift that I miss, and we get full pay (go the union!)

Anybody else have jury experience to share?

I served jury duty in Compton, CA. It was cool, but a wee bit scary at the same time...

Oh, and the guy was totally guilty.

Why not? Sorry, but it seems to me that the people who don't want to do jury service are no better than the people who don't want a prison built in their neighbourhood.

It's a fact of life that society is becoming more violent, and there are more dangerous criminals than ever before.Thesedays a case has to be pretty severe to be tried before a jury, and if we want the streets around our own homes to be safe,we all should play our part.

should we move this to philosiphizing?

Got tapped for jury duty once, but when I called the number they gave me, I was told my services were not required... pretty painless. Unless it's a big case (murder, etc), I think jury duty would suck pretty hard. This guy I used to work with had to be on the jury for some little kid who stole some cigarettes from a convienence store... talk about boring.

It's not like that at all.

It’s just not something I would really like to do. If I was called, I’d go, but it’s not something that I want to do.

The case I heard was four counts.

1. Carjacking
2. Assault with a deadly weapon
3. Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
4. Armed robbery

Guilty on 1-3...

The crime happened less than 3 blocks away from the courthouse.

Corporate Responsibility

The company I work for pays while you're serving as it considers it a corporate responsibility to support the justice system. (I'm not kidding it also has unlimited sick leave - on the basis that it implicitly trusts its staff to be professional folks... judging by how crook some people are when they drag themselves in, some of them should take more days off).

As for Jury Service, been tapped twice...

But on both occasions I was challenged out by the defence... go figure.

1. drug possession...................found guilty
2. armed robbery....................found guilty
3. petty theft...........................found guilty (really stupid thief, cops chased him and he tried to hide with the goods still in his pockets)

4. Murder...............................found guilty (took us 3 days to try and convince 2 other jurors that walking up to a car with a sawed off shotgun and blowing a hole in the guy's head IS 1ST DEGREE MURDER! In the end, the prosecutor had to settle for 2nd degree murder, what a bunch of lame jurors!!!!!!!!!!!)

been called twice in two years, first time went there and was on one really good armed robbery case, but the Jury was thrown out after two days as one of the jurors shouldn't have been there anyway.....(was a Damien in the making...if ya get my drift :hehe....
second time I got out of it because here if once you've served can't be called again for 3 years......

Why not? Let me see. The judge and lawyers get to set the time and date when it’s convenient for them. And by that, I mean they get the trial underway and then “Judge, I need a continuance” and the judge says – sure without even fucking asking why. They also receive their full pay – I do not.

I stand behind the fact you should be innocent until proven guilty. The problem is that the justice system was written by lawyers for lawyers who work there with little or no consideration for the general public they have to pull in.

When I’ve been called for jury duty, I’ve done the job. The only one worth mentioning was a drunk driver who killed another motorist. Guilty!
