A/C not working

Ive got a 97 SLE 5.7L. and when I turn on the ac it makes a ticking sound which is coming from the ac compressor of the pulley. It just blows out air that is same temp as outside. Any help would be appreciated.

It would take a trained ear to tell what the ticking sound is.
Does the air compressor kick in or run?

The pulley turns but not sure if the compressor kicks on or not. Sounds like it does. The ticking is coming from the actual pulley I THINK. I appreciate any help or suggestions.

I've also got a A/C problem on my 97 2500. My a/c is charged up and and compressor runs(and cools) if i jumpstart it off the battery. But i have no power at the diode and have no idea where to start looking....how i hate electrical troubles! Anybody have any clues as to where the problem may be... or diagrams relating to the A/C electrical system. Any help is appeciated.

Welcome to your first post on AF.
BUT
You need to start a new post on your problem.
And give all info you have.
Tips on getting a good answer to your questions.
People trying to answer your question do not have a crystal ball.
So give them all of the info you have like year make and model and engine and transmission.
Also service cars engine and transmission service history or any recent repairs or problems.
Also a description of your problem and what it is doing or not doing.
If you have codes give up the code no.
And remember a code does not say replace the part but only points to the problem that you have to check out.
So to better help you give up all of the info you have on it.


On the air cond charge give us the low and high side pressure readings at idle and at 2000 rpm.

If the charge is good have a look at all fuses and check the AC clutch relay.
Also you need a good wiring diagram for your system.
To find out where you are losing power to clutch.
One are to check is if it has a 2 wire pressure switch is for 12 volt power going to and threw the pressure switch.
The wiring plug in and also the switch is a problem area on them.
And a full type scanner can be a big help on it.
They are controled by the heater and AC control module
A good factory service manual or a all data sub. would also help.
