Need some advice? Reality Check!!

Hi, I have been looking for weeks to buy a 2000-01 cherokee Sport. It seems that either the vehicals are leaking, banged up, borken, have been in an accident or are just way over priced. I found a manual, which is nice, that has about 84000 miles on it. It has a small transmission leak but drove good. It is clean. The dealer would only go as low as $9700. Is this resonable? Am I just too picky to think that I can get one with out any leaks and that is priced around Kelly blue book.

Well, I actually just sold my Jeep... and it was a 2000 Grand and I only sold it for 8300. If a dealer is trying to sell you one for that price, He would be taking advantage of you it seams. Just dont be like me. Dont be impulsive and buy the first one. Take your time!

What condidtion it's in I dont know, but it's in your price range, it's a SPORT, and it's in your area. Even if there was something wrong with it you could talk them down and get it fixed. Better starting price of 8700.

I wouldn't worry too much about the leaks unless it was a major one. They have all kinds of additaves you can use to stop small to medium sized leaks.

Thanks. Is seems hard to find manual transmissions on these jeeps. Should I offer them 8500 and see if they will take it?

You should be able to get it for that or less. Right now, with gas priceses and all, dealerships arn't selling suv's like they want to. In colorado, after a month of having a vehicle on their lot, they have to start paying taxes on their vehivles. I would start by asking how long they have had it on their lot then you can figure out how desperate the bookies are to sell the car. Make sure when you walk in there you have a print out of the NADA prince of the car. If they are asking more then this, it helps create a new starting point to work with.

If you want to buy, walk in there and just be a jerk durring negociation! They are going to bring pack a pice of paper every time saying this is what we can do and this will be your monthly payment.... All you have to do is cross off what they wrote and put down what you want. With any luck you could get it for a desent price. If they say no way, wait a week and come back and see if they will budge again.

Although there is more power in cash! If you can pre arrange the mount with a bank and get the cash, you can walk in there and they are way more likely to work with you.

I agree with everything Bezerk wrote. Also I would write down the VIN # of the car and run a report out of www.nadaguides.com used vehicles. The report is not free, but my friend, it is worthy!

Dealers selling costs on these machines in real good condition runs
around $8000.00 by book. So I made a good bargain. Cought this one on a special sale.
you should not have to buy a vehicle from a dealer with leaks. Take your time and look further out from where you live for other vehicles that are better.
your money comes from hard work' don,t let it line a dealers pocket unless
he sells u a good quality vehicle .
Also Consumer Reports write up on these vehicles , the 2000/20001 is good.
