the z-r1?

Well i was just watching the barret Jackson auction on tv and there was the 91 vett red, and it was a rare zr1 modle. It had a DOHC motor in it by chevy, it was a 350 looked idenical to a TPI but it looked alot bigger. like in intake and the runners and all of that looked huge. How rare is that motor? it said to have 3xx hp i think like 325. went for $30,000 with 22,000 miles on it.

Re: the z-r1?

I remember when the ZR1 Vette came out.......There were just a very limited amount of them available and dealers were selling those for $30,000.00 over suggested list. I saw one at a nashville dealer ship that listed for $60,000.00 + the $30,000.00 over - it had a price tag on it for $90,000.00 ( now thats just nuts!)

Re: the z-r1?

An old dude had a Corvette at a truck stop one night. Had ZR1 emblems on it and on the back said "By Berger"

Re: the z-r1?

Didn't those vettes boast the ultra rare LT5 engine? GM's rare overhead cam setups. Those things are nasty.

Re: the z-r1?

It was developed by Lotus and built by Mercury Marine.

I remember seeing a red ZR-1 around here his liscence plate read "Goes 180"

Re: the z-r1?

The Corvette engine by Mercury was also put into a special edition of their speed boats. "The Wet-Vette"

Re: the z-r1?

I took out a book at the library called History of Corvette. It has a picture of the boat, red with vette tailights haha. Nice speedboat.

The ZR-1 was considered heavy but even with the extra weight, It was a excellent sports car. It was also the vette that put GM on the performance map, offering the first ZF six speed manual transmission. The corvettes had a 4speed manual only around that time. Soon after, when the LT1 came along, they got the six speed too but remember it was specifically deveoped for the ZR-1.
