starter bad or bad battery?

today when i went to go start my 96 sl2 and i put the key to start nothin happened no noise no nothing but my electronics inside turned on. i have not checked for anything else cause it is thundering and lightning but i think it is my starter since nothing is happening at all.

or could it be my fuel pump i started it but as soon as it started the rpm fell down into 0 but when you turn on the ac it does get a ideal where if it is off it does not get an ideal

Re: starter bad or bad battery?

My son has a '97 sl2 which was doing what sounds like the exact same thing. Autozone tested it and said it was the starter. Whe he was pulling it off he said there was a wire loose on the top of the starter that he couldn't see and couldn't tighten before he dropped it down. He tightened it and it has started better than ever, (we've had it since 03/05). If the battery is at 12 volts or more on a tester, it shouldn't be that. Probably the starter, maybe you'll get lucky and find a loose or frayed wire like he did. Of course he thought we should give him the 125$ since he saved us that on the starter......We filled his tank
