3000gt questions
do you think a 3000gt is better to modify than a 300zx? - be honest just because you have a 3000gt doesnt mean you have to defend it
what is the hp difference between a vr4 3000gt and a n/a 3000gt? how much more wold it be to get a vr4 over a n/a? - if it was the same year same mileage ect. the 3000gt is the same car as the doge stealth right? so can you buy dodge stealth preformance parts for your 3000gt? thanks for any answers |

in reply to jared
I cannot answer which car is best for modification.
If I had to answer, id say both are about equal. the horsepower difference between a VR4 and a N/A 3000gt is approximately 100 horsepower. unfortunately the difference in prices is mind boggling, anywhere from 7-10 thousand dollars difference. The engine in the GT is the same engine in the Stealth. The body styles are different with the interior and exterior looks clearly in favor of the GT by far. The performance parts you speak of will work on either car.

Re: 3000gt questions
do you think a 3000gt is better to modify than a 300zx?
There are quite a large number of parts available for both cars. The 300Z has more variety in the parts manufacturers but everything is out there. I have not worked on a 300Z so I cant compare the difficulty in working on the cars. what is the hp difference between a vr4 3000gt and a n/a 3000gt? go here to get the lowdown. http://www.team3s.com/FAQ-Specs1.htm As a synopsis – there is about 100hp and 100ft/lbs of torque difference. how much more wold it be to get a vr4 over a n/a? - if it was the same year same mileage ect. You can check on http://www.kbb.com/ to bet some price differences. However, expect to pay about 20+% more for a VR4 then an SL the 3000gt is the same car as the doge stealth right? so can you buy dodge stealth preformance parts for your 3000gt? The internals are all the same so you are right on both counts. thanks for any answers Your welcome. Also take a moment and check out www.3si.org if you want a site dedicated to the 3000/Stealth

Depends what you want. 3000 wasn't really meant to be to be a straight line go fast car... the Z was (moreso). So if you want a 1/4 car, the 300zx will do it better and cheaper. If you're into road races, it just depends how resourceful you are. The 300zx will still be a bit cheaper, but put the same amount into each car and the VR4 might beat you on handling.

yall are way off on price range...seriously, ive been finding many 91-93 300gt vr4 TT year model for around $6k where as the 300zx TT is priced extremely high at around $8-10k for like 91-94 models....plus, its a lot harder to find a TT 300zx for cheap then it is for a 3000gt vr4 TT....im going to be getting a 94 3000gt vr4 for around $6-7k, and stock those things will run 13.5(good driver) in the 1/4 mile....which would crush the 300zx, the 300zx run mid to high 14's with a good driver....defianetly look all around at all aspects, weight, reliability, hp, year models/make, aftermarket help.....well anyways, i strongly advise u go with the 3000gt vr4 or the stealth man, i meen the 3000gt vr4's(year 94) can hang with stock TT supras from 93.5 and up, the supra would most of the time end up winning but they can hang.....

That's not a real reliable site it seems.
Having driven both cars, having planned on buying a 300zx several times, I've checked every resource on how fast they are. The 300zx TT (5 speed) is the same HP as the VR4. It weighs a little less. And has less power loss through the drivetrain due to RWD. So if it ran a slower 1/4 time with the same driver, then something would have to be mechanically wrong with the Z. Yes you can buy a VR4 cheaper many times. I've seen plenty of them for under $10k. Mine was $11k and was already tuned to 500+HP. It also has 100k on the body, most of the parts and the cylinder heads. A lot of the cheap 3/s cars need help... they are also seemingly more common than the Z's. Not to say that there aren't Z's that are sold in bad shape, but generally they are higher priced because they have less miles and are more well kept. Also, when I said a Z would be cheaper, I meant to modify. There is not a great aftermarket for them, but a better one than the 3/S. More competition of parts from different manufacturers brings prices down. The quantity and variety of quality aftermarket parts is the VR4's biggest downfall, and will continue to be so.

The Z does not have the same HP rating as the VR4.

The 300zx TT has 300hp. the '91-93 VR4 has 300HP.

I stand corrected. I must have been looking at the torque numbers.

they both have 300hp true but in 94+ the 3000gt bumped it up to 320hp and I think around 13 more torque(not for sure though) I was wondering though does the 300zx have a 6-speed tranny? I know the 3000gt does in the vr-4 in the 94+.
my friend has a 91 300zx and is very pleased with it, hasn't had many problems with it either, personaly I prefer the 3000gt though |
