Superchips?

My freind has a 93 trans am and his co-worker wants 2 sell him a ACS superchip for 50 bucks is that a good deal. I looked at the website and it said it gives the car 27hp and 36ft/lb torque. Now i know it won't actually give u that much hp/torque but do you guys have a idea of how much hp/tq you will get?

Re: Superchips?

93 wasn't a hybrid year. It was your basic run of the mill removable prom and jumper wire or paperclip to flash the code. Always read the fine print, where they say up to this much horsepower cause with aftermarket chips they are set for a broad amount of uses versus a custom chip which is programmed for your exact mods and for your exact car. I suggest giving someplace like www.pcmforless.com a try. I think you will find that most people who have changed the prom recommend customer over random aftermarket.

So basically that chip won't do anything right? I know a custom tune is better than a general chip, but does that chip just offer a more aggresive tune?

Re: Superchips?

Factory cars are aimed at offering lower emission and getting best fuel economy while allow certain conditions to take place under wot but most of your aftermarket chips changed things like spark advance and injector pulse to allow for more performance oriented tune (and call for higher octane fuel because of the spark advance) and while this does do something, most still use stock stats to do this. Which really doesn't help take advantage of other performance mods or custom things you want done.

Re: Superchips?

I would say if you're expecting more than 5 -7 Horse out of it. You may be disappointed, as for harm. That all depends on what and how much they change things. I doubt they have any setting that are going to cause damage though but like it probably says in the instructions or on the box. I would recommend using Premium gas if you didn't before when/if you install one.
