Book Suggestions/Reviews

I figured it would be cool to make a thread that people could post books that they would suggest to other people. They can also review them or post a little "cliff notes" type thing for it.

Under and Alone - This is a non-fiction book about an undercover ATF (Alochol, Tobacco and Firearms) agent who goes inside the rebellious bike gang The Mongrols. These guys were said to be worse than Hell's Angels back in the day. It's a quick read and a VERY good book. Highly suggest it.

right now I'm reading Into The Wild. About some kid who graduated school gave his $25,000 savings account to a charity that fights hunger and he went trekking all across America. Wound up in Alaska. It's a good book, little slow though.

I read a popular reading book awhile back called "Darwin's Blade" by Dan Simmons. I say "popular reading" book because it was in the popular reading section the Clemson University library... haha. Seriously though, the book wasn't exactly literature but it was worth mentioning here at AF because the main character drove an NSX and a Toyota Landcruiser, was a special ops sniper in Viet Nam and now works for a small insurance claims firm as an accident reconstruction person. It's like reading an action movie or something because there is enough cheesy dialogue to go with it... haha. Not bad for a mindless read though.

I've been reading old Stephen King books lately. I read "Christine" which we all know what that was about. "Salem's Lot" was a pretty decent vampire story. Now I'm reading "The Shining" and I can't stop thinking about the Jack Nicholson movie as I read it. That was one of the scariest movies when I was a kid. The TV version with the guy from that sit-com "Wings" wasn't very scary...

Yeah, I read a lot... haha.

in easy and interesting read: "MAUS" (pronounced: mouse). Its a Holocaust fiction in comic form. pick it up, its quick and easy, but very well made.

Maus is such a cool book. We had to read in high school for a history class. one of the FEW books i actually read and didn't use sparknotes/cliff notes for.

I'm more into Westerns myself. I've got more than 375 books in various boxes around the house. One that I seem to read repeatedly is The Haunted Mesa by Louis L'Amore. I think i've read it 4 or 5 times. It's a pretty long book but once you start reading it, you can't seem to stop.

have you read the new book out by Cormac McCarthy? it's called No Country For Old Men. it sounds pretty good

No I haven't. I have a couple of his books I think. But that one doesn't ring any bells. I used to buy books at the local Walmart and at a Barnes and Noble that was 30 miles away but Walmart no longer carries westerns and B&N closed. Now i'm screwed for new reading material.
