are the pistons way of for the bore size in the d series motors or are they all the same size? i have a d16a vtec and i think i might need to replace the pistons and rings.

Re: d series piston bore

all d series pistons are the same bore (75mm) but they do have diff compressions! but I have no clue why you would not bore it out .20....

Re: d series piston bore

well no sense in rebuilding it if you are not gonna bore it out .20 and have it honed....thats the right way to do it and you will be able to sleep easier at night

Re: d series piston bore

No point in boreing it over. As long as its properly honed it will be fine.

Re: d series piston bore

The stock platue hone from honda is VERY good, and inless there is some serious wear or scratches that can catch a fingernail, there is really no reason to bore, unless you're going for more power.

Also, check zealautowerks in my sig for a great compression calc, you can figure out what pistons will give you what compression with your setup.

You could buy a hone to use on a drill, but it may not even be needed... check out how your block looks first.

Re: d series piston bore

Those drill hones can leave the bore out of round so you have to be very careful when using them.

Once in awhile you make a post worth posting lol.

Anyway this man is correct, drill style hones are TRAAAAAAAASH. They don't make it out of round technically though, its more of a egg shape. The middle will be slightly larger then the top and bottom like this ()

Re: d series piston bore

take it to a machine shop and get it honed properly, then get it hot tanked or atleast wash the cylinder walls down with warm SOAPY water. then reasemble. i thought your 4 door had a d15 vtec in it? hows it so beat already?

Re: d series piston bore

well being that HF's are 8 valves, the pistons will not work.

get some z6's.

Re: d series piston bore

It depends on what type of hone you use, I agree that the ball hones and the three stone spring loaded ones are junk though.
