I ahve a 98 Tahoe 4x4 w\350 and I am replacing the starter. Upon sitting the new starter in place, I notice that there is a foam gasket w\a celophane adhesive backing. I think it is supposed to be sleeve to keep dirt and grime out of the flywheel etc. The GM dealership had no idea what it is and none of my printed or cdrom manuals even mention there being a gasket type material on the lower bell housing.
Has anyone else come across this or maybe heard of this? Or was the previous owner seriously concerned about preservation!?
