1999 Aurora hard starting

Hello everyone

I am the new owner of a very nice 1999 Aurora, Me and my wife were looking for a midsized sedan for her, and found this car and feel in love with it. Over all it seems to be in very good condition with two exceptions. The main problems is hard starting, I live in the desert so the temps have been in the 100's, it takes holding the key in the start position for say 5 to 10 secs or longer for it to start, sometimes several tries, once started the car runs fine. no stalling, surging etc.
The other questions is, what is the normal operating temp for this car, it is running at the next line above the middle 200 mark, I am assuming that is about 220 degrees Is this normal?? I am used to most gages setting in around the middle as normal.

Car has 77,000 Miles, seems to have been very well taken care of by a single owner.

I am having the exact same issues with a newly aquired 1998 Aurora. Have you made any progress in determing what the problem is?

Sounds like your fuel pressure regulator is malfunctioning. It's about a $50.00
part at Autozone and easy to repair. Just remember to bleed fuel line before you remove regulator. Also, clean up your excess fuel.

Re: 1999 Aurora hard starting

Thanks for the reply... The FPR was recently changed (according to the guy I bought it from). I'm starting to think it is probably the fuel pump itself from what I have read here and other forums. Any suggestions for other things to check before I do the pump? Also, does anyone know of a step by step instruction for replacing the pump on a 98 Aurora?

Was this problem ever resolved? I've got the same problem.

Re: 1999 Aurora hard starting

I'm relatively new at this, but I cleaned the wall of the throttle body behind the throttle plate, and my hard to start problem disappeared. . . . for two days or so.

Re: 1999 Aurora hard starting

I have a '97 that had a hard starting problem. I put in AC platinum plugs, a set of SP wires. Fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter. And added a bottle of that stp(cleaner) additive to a full tank of premium gas. It have been starting fine, for about 6months now. But if i don't start it up after about 3 days, during cold weather. I have to use a shot of starting fluid to get it going. I will be testing my fuel pump with a fuel pressure gauge. And find out how to check my coil pack.
