I have an 86 na 300z and its got about 240k on it i did a timing belt and thermostat and water pump on it not to long ago, everything has been fine burns a little oil but hey its old, well im on the interstate yesterday on my way howe like always and my water temp is almost 230 now i dont know what red is but it normaly would stay at about 180, now when ever i drive it it just keeps climbing i havent let it get to high cause i dont want to hurt it, but im lost full anitfreeze, new pump and therostat. its fine at night time i can leave it all night running and it will never go past 180 so im lost anyhelp would be great. also would oil have anything to do with it i am getting the oil changed next weekend but it has about 3k on the oil, but it smells like it has gas in it. im going to go buy locks for my hood pins cause my hood latch broke and hood hit the window, but i live in an apt. and i hope no one is messing with it or there going to be dead and i mean it.

Re: Help I dont want it to DIE!!!!!!
also i can reach down and grab the fan while the car is running, is that good. I know alot about old school engine but these new kind just have way to many wires and stuff i am going to buy eather a electric fan or a clutchless on the spins with the speed of the motor at all times, and can anyone tell me where the wires are or the lever that control the heat to cool and the air mine is stuck on heat and i have no AC but in the summer it gets really hot! Thank you for your help

Re: Help I dont want it to DIE!!!!!!
check your timing... you probably missed a tooth or two and advanced the timing a little bit causing it to produce a lot more heat.... if that doesn' help check out az's site for common overheating problems...
you might also have a busted fan clutch, so you might want to replace that as well

Re: Help I dont want it to DIE!!!!!!
the fan clutch has been busted from day one and i did the timing belt atleast 15,000 miles ago. and the problem just started i removed the A/C thing in the front and put a mesh grill to keep things out of the rad. Its been almost 100 degress the last few days and i normaly dont drive till late afternoon and late night. im just going to get an electric fan and see if that helps. but thanks man

Re: Help I dont want it to DIE!!!!!!
well if the fan is busted then yes it will overheat.... but make sure you get an e-fan that pulls adequate air (most go for 2800 cfm, but on an n/a car it wouldn't matter quite as much) and make sure as shit you wire it in correctly using fuses and relays properly

Re: Help I dont want it to DIE!!!!!!
no they all came with mechanical fans... i think they all came with the extra electric fan in front of the a/c rad as well...

Re: Help I dont want it to DIE!!!!!!
if you put an electric fan make sure you change the altenator also. 85 maxima's altenator will be good.

Hows your radiator cap? sounds stupid but ive seen it fix problems like this because the old ones cant hold the pressure.

Re: Help I dont want it to DIE!!!!!!
replace it man...it's not that expensive... it's not worth risking doing damage to the car because of neglegence...

Re: Help I dont want it to DIE!!!!!!
i think it's made by lucas or something... it's supposed to help cooling somehow.. i'm guessing by having better heat transfer properties?
