Looking for a place to start

hi, all. i have been considering building an RC car for a little while but i am not sure where to start. if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great. i am looking for a hobby to fill my evenings and i think this would be the most fun. basically, if there is a website that sells like a million parts and stuff that would be great. many thanks.

well, i picked up the hpi rs4 rally Impreza kit the other day and now i am looking for a control for it. Not really sure what i should be lokoing for though. any suggestions?

Well the car you've got sounds like it could be alot of fun. Since you play with it in both dirt and on the tarmac.

For a controller first you should decide what style you like the most, the ones with the pistol grip and steering wheel, or the kind with 2 sticks.

Then decide how much you want to spend, some people want to buy the top of the line with all the features, some just something cheap. If you're going to race don't go for the bottom model, go for something decent (but not too expensive)

I have being racing 5 years, and still use a radio with AM frequencies. I've never had a problem, but if you want FM it glitchs less but is more expensive.

this car is going to be for backyard running for know. (and probably a little at work ) so i was probably going to get something really cheap for a radio. I want a pistol grip style. I saw some for around 49.99 on towerhobbies. I think they were a Futaba and an Airtronics. any reason i should get one instead of the other (they seem to both have exactly the same features and price). thanks

$50 for a radio is a good cheap price. If you're just using it for backyard running thats all you need. Just make sure it comes with atleast one servo.
Endpoint adjustment or DualRate adjustment is also very useful, but if they don't have it don't worry. As you don't need to have them they can just help in a small small way.

Hmm well i don't use either Futaba or Airtronics, but I know they are both well known and respected companies so either should be good.

So I'rd just choose it by which has the most features, if they have the same number. Then choose it by which has the closest service centre too you incase you need to send it in for repairs.
