Another JGC stalling problem

My 99 limited has been stalling while being driven. No codes given and my mechanic just replacd the CPS which didn't work. I've been searching for an answer on this site and it seems there are multiple parts to replace but is it time to have him replace the ECM? Basically, the power shuts off but the radio will still work if it is at the on position and all lights are on, even check engine. It cranks but won't kick over. The more I try (no patience) the longer it takes, and it will start up if it's let to sit anywhere from 1-15 minutes. It's at the shop now and I've gotta give him an answer. Thanks for any help.

Re: Another JGC stalling problem

now when you say cranks but wont kick over you mean the starter is actually turning the motor but not firing?

I guess that's it...apparently, it is now at an electric specialist.

9 times outta 10 the ignition switch is the culprit.

Just an update.
It is still sitting at the shop, the specialist did not find anything and it won't act up for the mechanic- go figure. He is now waiting for a used ECM.

Re: Another JGC stalling problem

Do you know if the mecahnic that changed your CPS did it right? Disconnected the battery? Installed it properly and is familiar with Jeeps.

Seems more and more CPS problems on here and I cured my 96 by making sure it was done correctly by a JEEP mechanic and not just any shop. The first shop screwed it up and sent me hunting for misfire gremlins for months...

Re: Another JGC stalling problem

Thanks Bryan.
I hope they did it right but I'm quickly lossing faith in my around-the-corner mechanic.

I ended up ordering an ECM used for $180 but that didn't work because it has to be reset by the dealership and now the part store won't take it back until I get paperwork from the dealership saying it doesn't work. I did just found my warranty info and it is still under an after market warranty so I will call them and see if it can be fixed with their money. I took the truck from the mechanic and I have been driving it between 2-5 miles and it has been OK. I did see that someone said that their wiring harness wasn't properly tightened which caused the same stalling problems. Maybe it's been fixed just by them messing with it. My wife won't drive it, I would like to get rid of it. BTW, it was with an electrical specialist who ran tests which came back negative and it does run it's ass off. Other than the stalling, there are no other problems. Anybody need an ecu?
