Question Transmission question?

Is it possible to convert my 99 automatic sunfire into a manual car? And would I need a different type of transmission? I have the 2.2L SFI engine with the automatic transmission if that helps any.

Thank you for your time,
EBC

Re: Transmission question?

If the car came from the factory with a manual transmission you can get all the parts you would need to convert it over from a wrecking yard. You will need clutch, transmission, linkage, pedal assembly, flywheel, axle shafts, hydraulic clutch cylinder and a good deal of money and time. At least $1000 to start unless you can find a donor car with what you need for a cheaper price.

Re: Transmission question?

Hmm, so if I have a wrecked 98 cavalier Z-24 with a manual transmission could I use it in my 2000 Sunfire GT auto? The engine in the cavalier is still good and has less km's than the one in the Sunfire so would it be easier to just switch both the engine and the transmission at the same time rather than just doing the transmission?

I might do this someday and I might not this is just for future reference. I believe it would be a lot of work and time to do this so I wont unless I have some extra motivation... aka engine or tranny on Sunfire blows.

Sorry for asking this in your thread Insany but I felt this is the best place to ask.

Re: Transmission question?

=O man that's alot of work. And I thought my engine swap was gonna be bad. =( Hot Bug will the sunfire run any faster with a 2.4 turbo engine? I decided to go with the 2.4 instead of the 3.8 =D. Because right now my 2.2 is okay I guess but the gears run fast from 0-40 after that the car is like a turtle =( with the automatic transmission.

It's okay Blas don't worry about it =).

Thank again,
Insany
