1993 Front Brake Pad - Tool Type/Size?

I need to change the front pads on a 1993 Taurus. What type/size tool is needed to remove the bolts?

If I remember correctly, it is a 15 millimeter / 13 millimeter wrench to open the bolts that attach the caliper to the mounting bracket. I don't seem to remember which side I use but I can check when I get home if you need me to.

Interesting - the Parts shop said he believed it was a Torx wrench...it's my daughter's car so I won't be able to eye-ball it until she brings it over to have the work done so I was trying to make sure I had all the proper tools on hand.

I seem to remember it being T40 or T45 Torx on my 1993 Taurus SHO as well. Some Fords used pins with 10mm hex on them. Many use Torx. If you have a 10mm 6-point socket, ratchet wrench, and T40, T45, and T50 Torx sockets or long-handle Torx keys, you'll probably be covered.

From the service manual for a 1993 Taurus 3.8L:

3. Remove caliper locating pins using a number 40 Torx(r) bit.

The torque spec is 18-25 Lb-Ft.

Thanks - I stopped by the library and looked at the Chilton manual - says T40 also

Could be a 12 MM is close enough to a T40 to fit. I never have used a torx for anything.

Torx is a recessed "star" type drive. The outside of the pin is completely round.

I have seen some Fords that would use a hex socket or combination wrench, and it wouldn't surprise me if some Taurii use that. I thought they used 10mm, but it's been a long time since I've done brakes on one that had hex pins.
