can additive make trans fluid Mercon V?

I recently had my 03 Windstar's trans flushed @ 34.7k. The shop said that they could put an additive in the trans fluid in their machine to make it Mercon V. Is that true? Just concerned about keeping my trans serviced as I want it to last a LONG time and not wanting them to use the wrong fluid. Thanks!

There are products available that you can add to transmission fluids that meet Mercon specs to enablr them to meet Mercon V specs (or so they claim) but I would not be willing to bet my transmssion over it.

Stick with a fluid that meets Mercon V only and that was designed to meet Mercon V only.
