Re: keyless entry help

So glad to see your ? - am seeking same info for 1997. You might find the info provided in the forum a few years ago helpful, I stumbled onto it today: On earlier models the code in on a label attached to the washer fluid bottle in the back(drivers side) tool compartment behind the jack. I had to use a flashlight and small mirror to read it.

I had the same problem with my 2002 Explorer. The dealer said my only option was to pay them $75 to hook their computer up to my car. I finally got a friend in the business to do this for me (another Ford dealer). I couldn't find any codes under the dash or in the jack/spare tire compartment. I even called Ford. They said each car has a different reset code. Good luck.

go to the rear of vehicle, open hatch then on left side looking forward is a removable panel that the jack sits behind, remove panel. get a flashlight look forward to see a white module almost by rear seat, there will be a bunch of numbers and letters look for 5 larger numbers this is your factory code.if batt goes dead it will revert to this code even if you change code per owners manual

Re: keyless entry help

If you know the factory code, you can refer to the section in the owner's manual for help. There is a detailed explanation on how to set your own code....If you don't know your factory set code, refer to a newer posting where other readers posted where to locate the factory code ie: in the jack compartment on left side of trunk area. You will need a flashlight and look for the 5 digit code in big numbers.

Re: keyless entry help

I have a 98 Explorer and the code was on the left rear side in the the jack panel on a little gray box. It is kinda hard to read but the numbers on in the middle of the panel. They are not large per say but they are bigger than the other writing that appears on the box.

On my 1999 Expedition it was in the left hand side wheel well on a white box and those numbers where very large.

It will be on that grey box you speak of, a little piece of paper at the back of your owner's manual or there is a sticker on the computer you have to pull the computer out to see it. Make sur \e to disconnect your battry before you remove the computer! On my 01 the computer is on the pass. side of the firewall under the hood. there is a bolt holding the connector on the computer and 2 nuts holding in the computer itself.

Re: keyless entry help

How about on a 2004 Explorer w/ the 3rd row seating? If the jack isn't in a side panel, but on the floor...how do I find that computer module?
