Hey Gents,
So my dad and I are going to change out my rear bumper this weekend and it looks pretty straight forward. The only concern I have is how to get the pipe apart that goes to the pulley for the spare tire. Does that thing just pop apart? Is it pressure fit? Should I lower my spare tire to get it out of the way???? I've got some new brackets and a new Chrome bumper so it should go pretty well.... Just thought I'd put the question out there if anybody has done it before any input would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Evan

Re: Rear Bumper Removal Question
I just put a new rear step bumper on my truck...The tube is a two piece system.....unbolt the bumber....and pull it off the truck....the tube will slide apart leaving a short piece of the tube attached to the bumper.
I unbolted my bumper at the frame...pulled it out and down to get the brackets to clear the body at the back of the bed. Just work the bumber around and you can get it off. The clamp that holds the tube on is a two piece.....the one piece has 4 legs that go into the cornors of the hole in the bumper.....the other is like a washer with prongs....press it on the the prongs hold the plastic. I had to bend a couple of the prongs open to get the washer off....(bent them back before assembling). |

Re: Rear Bumper Removal Question
Awesome thanks for the 411. When you say "The Clamp that holds the tube on.." Are u talking about the little tube that remains on the bumper? My new bumper actually has one of those already on it so hopefully I won't have to worry about removing that...
Thanks again! Quote:

Re: Rear Bumper Removal Question
Yes.....the tude is an inch or so in diameter and a foot or so long. It's the tube that your jack handle goes in to lower the spare. You won't have to deal with the clamp if your new bumber has the tube.....Just un-bolt the old one....slide it off and slide on the new one. You'll have to align the tude so it goes over the one that remains on the truck....they are flexiable....so it's no big deal.

Re: Rear Bumper Removal Question
Went together nice and smooth! Thanks again for all your help. Looks much better than the rusty old one. Amazing what Canadian Salt will do to a 7 year old bumper. Especially when it's been hit a few times..
