Re: Will A olds 307 Motor fit in a 79 Monte?
If memory serves me correctly, I think it will work also. I think the key is to find the correct motor mounts. You might have to check with some engine rebuild shops or talk to someone inyour area knowledgeable about these swaps. I used to do stuff like this all the time 15-20 years ago, and had a lot of fun finding out what worked and what didn't. I used to scavenge junk yards for parts and modify them to work. My only wish is that I had documented all I did for future reference. I had a '78 Monte Carlo that I put my modified Chevy SB 406 into. Let me tell you, that car kind of scared me at how fast it was compared to the car it was previously in, ('76 Monte.) The weight difference was quite a bit from '76 to '78, and that was enough to notice. I had to get rid of the car a couple of years later as the rear frame rails were badly rusted, a common problem here in NY where a lot of salt is used in the winter. I think the '78 was one of the Top 5 cars I owned (out of 21 total cars,)and I miss it. Good luck with yours.

Re: Will A olds 307 Motor fit in a 79 Monte?
It will work, but why? The 307 will run reliably, but you'd probably do better all around finding a SBC and TH700-R4. That "Olds trnasmission" is probably a 200 so it would have both bolt patterns (BOC and CPC). If you only want to start, run, and drive the car around a while, then sell it, the 307 would be fine. If you plan to keep and drive it, rethink the marine engine installation (like the previous owner probably did).
