"02 Celica GTS No Spark

I have a 2002 Celica GTS with has a no spark condition at the present. My biggest problem is that all of the books and material I have read states that I should have an 1.8 engine while mine has a metal plate on the intake plenum which has 2200 on it. Anyone know what gives with that? I have checked the coil and it is within specs for a 1.8 and my next step should be to check the cam sensor then the crank sensor. I have found what looks as if it should be the cam sensor on the top portion of the timing cover but it has about 6 wires, kind of hard to check resistance when you don't know which 2 to check. I looked around the crank pulley area for the crank sensor but found nothing. Any usable help will be greatly appreciated, as I hate to see a piece of metal get the best of me but I can't seem to find any info on this "2200"

look at the decal on the underside of the hood, should say 1.8 ltr yadda yadda yadda, that'll give you most of the info you need, may even give you the location of the sensors or a wiring diagram

Re: "02 Celica GTS No Spark

I did ask for usable info and still get....It has a distributer but no spark so checking the cap and rotor won't make any difference. The emission label is missing and even if it were there it wouldn't show the location of sensors. The vacuum routing label is still there and it shows where it is for a 5S-FE. I believe the 1.8 is a 3S-FE so maybe the 5S-FE is a 2.2? I am figuring it needs a cam and or crank sensor as it is electronic ignition but it appears it only has 1 pickup on the distributer shaft so what tells the computer the correct time to fire each cylinder? I can't believe the coil is energized all of the time.

Re: "02 Celica GTS No Spark

I'm helping a friend and through a misunderstanding he has a 92 not an 02. I found this out yesterday when I went over to his place. It has power to the plus side of the coil so I checked the primary and secondary resistance, the primary was a little high-1.8 versus .3-.6 and the secondary was within spec. I'm assuming the ignitor is the culprit. Seems to me there is a possibility of another failure if the resistance is high on the primary. Any ideas? Thanks
