Front end noise

Hey all, I've got a noise that I can hear from the drivers front when I turn either or right or left, but not at all in reverse. It's kind of a fast grinding noise. but not loud. I'm suspecting the Drivers side CV joint, but I've always noticed a clicking, almost knocking noise in the past when I've seen those go bad. All boots look great. I'm really not sure what else it could be. BTW - I'm positive it's not the strut mount bearing plate, that also makes noise, but from a different location than the one I've described, and a different sound as well.

Thanks!

Re: Front end noise

How about checking the wheel bearings (hub cartridge)?

Re: Front end noise

I've checked to make sure that there is no slop in the bearing, and it seems fine, I'm not totally ruling it out, but I don't think that is the problem.

A bad wheel bearing doesn't always have play. Could be a scalloped tire also. Jack it up and run the car in gear, not over 40 and supported safely, listen to each wheel bearing to determine if one is noisey.

Re: Front end noise

CV joints will normally click, pop or clunk, not grind. I believe the issue is the hub bearings.

Re: Front end noise

I was thinking the same thing about it NOT being the CV joint, richtazz. I just wanted to get others' opinions. Also, the tires are in great shape. (only a couple thousand miles). Thanks for the input everyone. I'll look into the hub bearing more closely.
