Need one-month policy !!!
Hello Experts,
I had a recent post about "Pay-As-U-Drive" but that hasnt been heard by many people. Now I really need to know how to buy one-month policy in San Jose, CA. I have car insurance with AAA, I called them up and they said they would add that extra car of mine to the policy, then after one-month when I call to cancel they'd refund my premium. No, no. I dont want that, because if I dont pay in full for the very 1st invoice, they will charge 12% annual interest for the unpaid amount when I only need insurance for one month. Please, I need quick info. Any quick info is very much appreciated. Dont let me be ripped by those rich companies already. Many thanks, shin |

Re: Need one-month policy !!!
The insurance company will ask: why do you only want ins for 1 month? Are you planning to keep the truck? If so, why not get a normal policy.....
Try calling or talking to an agent from all the major car insurance companies, like State Farm, Nationwide, Allstate, GEICO, USAA, Farmer's, Erie, Progressive, tell them what you plan to do with the vehicle and see if they will write you a policy that fits your needs. If you just take a vehicle off, there may be a surcharge. But if you're fixing it up then selling it, there is usually a clause in the policy that a sold vehicle doesn't incur that charge. Good luck.

Re: Need one-month policy !!!
Hello Fred,
First, I notice that you've been very quick in writing back to people with car or traffic related questions. Very good, and myself I appreciate it! Thanks for the guide. Well, the one month policy is because I cannot afford regular insurance for this extra truck that I just bought -- I already have to handle insurance for my current 2 cars. I plan to sell my current truck then transfer the insurance over to this one. This is for the meantime only -- when I have to take it here and there for fixing and changing tires, and I have to get insurance quick because I have to pickup the tires very soon (they'll mount them for me. If I use my current truck to pick up the tires, then I have to pay for mounting and balancing later -- what a loss). Now you see. Then after that, I just leave it in the garage. Thats the whole reason for short term insurance. I'll see how I can handle this. Regards, shin |

Of course this begs the question....if you have 2 cars and a truck already, why do you need to keep one truck???? Just sell it, then transfer the insurance to the new truck you just got. In the meantime, just drive the two cars you have.

Re: Need one-month policy !!!
Well, Fred, if you have a little coffee time to read ...
My current truck is a regular Dodge Ram. I fall in love with the Chevy diesel so I bought it and I try to get it ready for weekend drive later. If I transfer the insurance now (which is a good idea from you) then I have to go to work with the huge Chevy diesel -- well, this is not what I want. My complex plan (and I dont have much $$$, sad) is to sell the current truck for a regular sedan car to go to work since my truck is drinking up too much gas $$$. Then, my Chevy diesel is for weekend ride only. The plan is to get it in good shape, that requires insurance so I can get it on the road for fixing, changing tires. The 2nd car under my policy is my sister's car. But we decide it is too much to pay for 3 cars instead of 2. We work butts off, but we dont earn much. Thats about it ... shin |

Re: Need one-month policy !!!
you should be able to just call your insurance company up and ask them what to do. just make sure they know you plan on driving the vehicle only for a few days then parking it for an extended period of time.
and just for the record, it's been in the 114 range IN THE SHADE here for the past week... you guys are lucky
