Looking for info

My friend has a 00 sunfire, 2.2L. The problem they are having is the car will turn over but it will not start. We replaced the fuel filter yesterday and thought that would have solved the problem but it didnt. Another one of our friends said something about the cam sensor may be causeing it. Just wanting some ideas to look for. they said they had the ignition recall done a few years back. i've been looking all over for them, they dont want to send it to a shop if they dont have to.

thanks in advance

Nate

Re: Looking for info

Welcome to AF!!

There are two systems to be concerned with. First, does the car have spark? If the answer is no then you will need to diagnose the issue. It can be anything from the Crank Position Sensor, the ignition module, Coils, cam position sensor or even the engine control computer, it possibly could have even jumped time. Try spraying some starter fluid into the throttle body while someone cranks the engine. If it starts you can rule out the ignition and go to the fuel system. If it starts with the starting fluid then you will need to look at the fuel system. Usually one of two things, fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator. You can check the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure guage. If you have less than 40 pounds at idle then the problem is one of the above mentioned items. I hope this helps.
