quick motor question
Which engine is the LS VTEC? How much do you think one would go for? Thanks

Re: quick motor question
ls vtec is the combination of a b18b or a block mated to a vtec head. It is an engine that has to be built( meaning there is no stock ls vtec engines made from factory.) They make good power and have good tourque. They run about 1500 or so. I may be off on this. Use the search on this forum to read on how to build one. Someone had a very good in depth thread on what is needed and cost. Have someone who really knows what they are doing. A crvtec set up is a crv block mated to a vte head. Again more power and toruqe but need a proper build to be reliable and to rev up high. If i am wrong on this, someone correct me.

Re: quick motor question
yes he is correct but just to make it perfectly clear.
b18a or b18b+any dohc vtec head will work. there are minor things involved for this. and like he said you would want to build it or else you cant rev past 7k with the stock block. but this setup can be had for under 800$ just look around. and that is just the long block so you would need a tranny and shift linkage/mounts and all that great b series swappin stuff. do a search. it should be easy to find. |

Re: quick motor question
bambam had a great post to this question. i have a b18 block. it's stripped though, and i have the b18 pistons and rods. my friend just went ls/vtec. but he forgot to get a b16 fuel rail. i'll let ya know how it runs in a few days.

Re: quick motor question
If you're going to go LS/VTEC I would recommend picking up a set of USDM ITR pistons, they will put your compression at around 11.5:1, which will be a noticeable power difference over the stock LS pistons. A set of Honda pistons and rings shouldn't cost you more than $300 and having the machining done to get the new pistons on will be around $60-80. Unless the LS motor has been seriously abused, Hondas factory platue hone is normally in very good condition, so the cylinder walls will be decent without a hone.
Also, a set of $99 ACL bearings tossed into the mix will give you a fresh bottom end. |

Re: quick motor question
Must have ARP headstuds! And also the bottom end will need to be built up.

Re: quick motor question
those pistons are the p30 right? the p30 will give you the highest compression, and definitly buy arp bolts and studs for EVERYTHING.

I would recommend ARP rod bolts though if you plan on revving it past 7200 RPM. |
