I just installed a 650 Holley Carb in my 78’ Chevy Malibu, and I was told that I need “Cam Gears” immediately, because without cam gears I would flood my spark plugs. What’s the best Cam Gears to buy? And where can I buy them?
reply asap. Thanks alot.

Re: Cam Gears.. quick question!
Hmmmmm.......
"Cam gears", huh? Maybe "cam AND gears"? Many 2-bbl. engines, when upgraded to a 4-bbl., will run worse than before. This is due to the 2-bbl. cam still in place (cam supplied as "stock" in a 2-bbl. engine). The breathing capability is not up to the volume the 4-bbl. can supply. By upgrading the cam to 4-bbl. specs, the engine will be a lot happier. As adding a bigger cam usually degrades "low-end" performance, a rear axle ratio change could also be called for. Does this sound more like what you're trying to say? If so, state your engine size, trans type and performance goals. I can recommend a specific cam and gear ratio. Jim |
