Help! Problems after clutch install

First of all this is not my first time I install the cluth on my Neon, its the 5th time.
After I put it all together checked all the gears with the car off and all gears went smoothly. When I start the car I try to shift, it won't go into gear. Next with the car off I put it into 1st gear and as soon as I try to start the car it lounges forward. What could have gone wrong? At first I thought it was the throwout bearing (clutch realease bearing) becausr it had the little tabs broken so I replaced it. I have tooken it apart 4 times already so I am real frustreted. I torqued the flywheel to 70 ft/lbs and the PP to 250 in/lbs. Before the clutch install the car was fine. Could it be the pressure plate is the wrong one? Clutch cable? Ideas please!

Also when I step on the clutch pedal it feels sorta spongey

Re: Help! Problems after clutch install

bleed the system...you didnt mention what year, so i will tell you whats common with hte srt4 (and probably the 2nd gen neons in general, and maybe first as well). the system needs to be bled...and you cant bleed it fully yourself. let it sit for 3-4 hours and everything should stifen up. this has happened on the 8 or 9 clutches i have had dealt with...both dealer installd, our shop installed, and neighboring shops have installed

I have a 1st gen 1995. I found out the problem. My brother had not torqued the pressure plate bolts and they were loose. I torqued them and probllem was fixed.

Re: Help! Problems after clutch install

thats what you get when you dont check someone elses work on your own car. i had a friend help me with a tranny swap and he didnt tighten the bottom strut bolts after it was done. the bolts came flyin off when i was on the highway. amazingly the stat stayed level until i slowed and started to turn off the road to see what the problem was. then the top side of the wheel fell in.
