2.4 liter in 96 caravan

Im having a problem with my 96 caravan as well as my 97 voyager both seem to have no crankshaft postion sensor signal nobody knows why have chcked just about everything the question i have is ... is there something internally on the crankshaft that the sensor reads that tells it what info to send to the pcm we have replaced the sensors on both vehicles with no luck will only fire intermidately this is a 2.4 liter dohc engine and yes the timing is fine and no the timing belt is not broken or out of place or out of time SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

have you checked for any codes,and did you check the camshaft sensor

Ya, the engine computer needs the same signal from both sensors or the ASD relay will shut you down. I learned all about them last November and of course got all my resources here!
To answer your question, I believe the sensor reads notches on the drive plate. If it were teeth, I would worry about broken teeth but I believe they are notches. Check that cam position sensor and make sure you are spacing them correctly. I believe the cam sensor comes with a paper spacer and the crank sensor just rides the edge of the drive plate(no spacer). Mine didn't come with a spacer, at least. I fought the crank sensor for like 4 days before I realized it was out about 1/16" too far. Hope that helps.
