Can i get a title on a car w/out one?
If i buy a car at an auction w/ no title, is it possible to get a title for it? And if so, how hard is it, and what do i have to go thru? Thanks. G-man422

Another friend who is an avid collector of cars, said there's a crap load of services around the country that can get you a title in around 3 days, a month at most. You'd most likely need the VIN number...I dunno bout' the rest. But cars without titles aren't supposed to be sold...at least that's what I think I was told.

Re: Can i get a title on a car w/out one?
In general, buying a car without a title is a no-no unless you are buying it for parts and know someone with a scrapyard who will take the rest away w/o said title.
But there are ways around it...But I would look into it first before buying. Another possibility would be to try to find another car just like it, pop off the vin code and take the title for it and voila! ...but then you would have another car without a title to mess with...

DMV. i had a friend that was just driven a car and there's no title. the guy lost it or something awhile back. it was just sitting in his yard for like a year or so.
It sucks, but yeah, DMV.

Re: Can i get a title on a car w/out one?
If the car has not been declared a parts car to the state, getting a title shouldn't be much of a problem, just have the current owner apply for a new title, takes about a week here to get one costs 10 bucks or so.

It has been declared a "parts car". Does this make it impossible?

Re: Can i get a title on a car w/out one?
In the case of a parts car, getting a title is going to be impossible. Why was the car declared a parts car? Here, its usually rust, frame damage, fire damage, or fraud. Good luck, check on what your state requires in this situation, but you probably will never get a title for the car.

Re: Can i get a title on a car w/out one?
When I was looking into getting a project car that didn't have a title I had gotten the paper work for something called a "builders title" which looked pretty easy to get. IIRC all you needed was receits for engine/tranny or something and they would issue you a title for it.

Re: Can i get a title on a car w/out one?
In MI, it easy, with your personal info. and some decent description of vehicle, you can apply for abandoned or no-title, asnd get the slip same day. A VIN # is usually all needed for a search of other claims, and you need some proof it was abandond, at least in MI.
