Help please!my car is running bad and i know nothing about cars

i have a 1995 grandprix gtp v6 3.4L ...it has 57,000 miles. Its shifting hard especially out of first and 2nd gear.the engine light keeps coming on and when i press the gas to accelerate it hessitates and is kinda jumpy.while idle it sounds like it's kinda struggling and the rpms kinda dance around a little.when i put it into reverse from park it slams into it right away and it slams into drive from reverse instead of being smoothe too.i don't know what's wrong i know nothing about cars...please help

Welcome to AF, get it scanned and post the code back, but ultimately by your own admission you will need professional intervention here.

The engine jumping into gears sounds like worn engine mounts or a bad dogbone(engine strut what every you want to call it) or both... but the dancing of the rpms has a variety of possible problems....

I agree with MAx, get it scanned and post the codes, then we'll go from there.

I agree. Get it scanned. You can go to Autozone and have it scanned for free. If you go to the dealer, or a private mechanic, they will scan it and charge you, and mostlikely lure you in to a costly repair. Fix the problem of the SES light coming on and se what problems go away.
