Sluggish Acceleration

Hey guys. I've been noticing that recently, my 91 T-bird (Your basic 3.8, no chargers) has been slowing down. I'm talking off the line acceleration, it runs fine on the highway. I tried running fuel system cleaner in it, cleaning the air filter (K&N), changing the MAF sensor, but to no avail. Anyone have a clue?

Re: Sluggish Acceleration

when was the last time you tuned your bird up? i would start by replacing the pcv and egr valves and checking them for vacuum leaks.

Re: Sluggish Acceleration

I replaced the pcv valve with no effect. The EGR is getting replaced tomorrow, so I'll let you know how that goes.

Re: Sluggish Acceleration

Replaced both with no effect. Anything else I could try? Also I had another problem. The idle on this car is very high, and it cant be adjusted any further out. The thing will drive at a good 15-20 mph without me even touching the gas. Also, there are no vacuum leaks.

Re: Sluggish Acceleration

your idle problem sounds like the throttle position sensor. your throttle position sensor may be the culprit for both your problems.

Re: Sluggish Acceleration

also you may want to clean the throttle assembly with some throttle body cleaner.

Re: Sluggish Acceleration

Yea, I thought before it was the throttle sensor, but when I replaced it, it didn't help much.
