radio auxiliary input

2001 S-10, 4.3 auto, 2WD
Factory installed GM am, fm, cd radio. Four source buttons on the front, am, fm, cd, and aux. I would presume the auxiliary input is for some other source and I was planning on using an mp3 player. Anyone know what the input plug is, an RCA type, 1/8" stereo plug, direct wire into the harness or??. I would like to have the needed type of plug before I tore the radio out.....Mike

Re: radio auxiliary input

I believe it's a specialty 12 pin connector designed for use with the optional CD changer. You should be able to find a converter at any stereo shop or eBay that will give you RCA inputs. Alternatively you could use an FM modulator, either broadcasting from your MP3 player or hard-wired, but you'll need the adaptors for the smaller GM antenna harness. Your local surplus shop or electronic discount store should have them for $2-3.

Re: radio auxiliary input

Thanks goser, at least now I know what I'm looking for. I'd rather not go the fm modulator route as I think you lose a bit.....Mike
