Dodge air conditioning cable

I have a 92 dodge dakots,6cyl.Its suppose to have a cable to the heat and one to the air..I have been switching them,had them switched until I can afford another cable..where do you specifically switch them at,where on the panel? Need air conditioning right now..have dash taken apart and dont know where to do this.
