I use a Canon EF-S 60mm Macro lens. It's light, cheap and one of the sharpest lenses Canon makes. Because it's on the short end of Canon's macro lineup it's also good for portraits such as this one:

funny, i was just lookin at that one. so its pretty good huh and has good range?

i was thinking about the E65 or perhaps the 180mm. thats cool though, im glad i got to see some good previews

The 65mm macro Canon makes (the 5:1 lens) isn't usuable as anything besides a dedicated macro lens as it has a short maximum focusing distance. Anything past a few feet will be forever out of focus. The 100mm is another option to consider, it's wicked sharp and slghtly longer but it's got some added bulk.

well, id only want a dedicated macro. i have the 70-300 IS and the standard 55-80 which i was going to upgrade and buy a wide angle soon. But, i might get what you got. seems good enough and apparently you can get
close enough without scaring them away. plus, that potrait is awesome
