Swap Question for future

Hello civic lovers,

Background: I've got a 91 dx 4 door with a 92 horsepower motor. The engine is on its way out. At this point I am 99.9% sure that the smoke is from worn rings, i've considered everything else. I plan on topping off the oil for a year or two (maybe a can of restore).

FUTURE idea for a swap
If i swapped a new engine in, maybe in a year or two, i'm thinking of swapping in MultiPointFuelInjection also.

Question: Upgrading to MPFI would NOT be that much extra $ if i was doing a swap anyway, right?

I'm thinking that swapping to a 1.5 to a 1.6 w/MPFI would be a relatively inexpensive swap that could get me up from 92 HP to above 110 HP. (i know, some of you think this is still very slow)

Re: Swap Question for future

Your on the right track. dpfi to mpfi is an easy swap and not really costly at all. You just need things like a new ecu and resistor box...but most of it is wiring. IMO you should find yourself a D16A6 or buy a single cam ZC to replace your B2.

Re: Swap Question for future

CRXperiment,

Thanks for responding. I appreciate the feedback.

But one outfit, jdm source of Philly, quoted me around 600 dollars for an MPFI swap. Which, by itself, on a d1.5, is not enough of a boost to justify the cost. Keep in mind that I will be paying someone else to do the work. Therefore I think it will be somewhat costly even if it's relatively easy.

So an MFPI swap alone -- not worth it (unless i found someone who could hook me up).
Doing an MFPI swap, an engine swap & maybe adding a CAI; all at once -- worth it.

Re: Swap Question for future

hey, if your looking to swap out your dpfi to mpfi then you would be better off looking for a full motor either a d16a6 or even just a regular stock ZC.. not just for the swap to mpfi for 600 bucks.. that is really costly. You can find a full motor for that amout and just have then install it for an extra 150 to 200 bucks.

Re: Swap Question for future

yea, if your gonna go and do the MPFI swap, which is necassary IMO on any swap. Wait until you get a new motor and do it then, because then you will already have the Intake Manifold, and hopefully the distributor(some places don't sell it with the dizzy). Then the only other thing you have to get is the ECU and resistor box and do some wiring.
