where can i buy a fuel gauge from?

my friend has a 1991 legacy l wagon 4 wheel drive auto trans, and her gas gauge is broke, so she cant tell when she is ok on gas or if she is low.so she keeps have to put gas in just to make sure she wont run out,so i was wondering if there is a site where she can get the gas/fuel gauge from,or even the whole cluster if she has to.

Contact Jamie at http://www.subarugenuineparts.com
I am sure she will be able to help you.

Alternatively, you may have to try a few junk yards to see if you can get a functional used one.

Re: where can i buy a fuel gauge from?

Is it the gauge in the dash or the sending unit in the tank? Could be the wiring in between.

If you want to buy used parts, try: www.car-part.com

If you're not sure it is the gauge, I'd recommend the sending unit as the culprit. The sending unit should have a resistor that changes in accordance to how much fuel is in the tank. Removal, inspection and testing should be fairly easy with a multimeter in resistance mode.

From the electrical diagram: Sending unit shows three wires:
a red/white for the low fuel light,
a black wire to ground,
and a brown/yellow wire
that should go to the dash gauge.
