For two months I have owned a 1974 Midget. Dreamed of owning this car for 42 years. Five hours into owning it, got first gear stuck, spent 2 weeks in the repair shop, got a new clutch and various wires & hoes, drove it home, next day wouldn't start, new starter installed. Had 6 weeks of driving bless, tonight got it stuck in first gear again. Tomrrow she'll go to the repair shop. Is getting stuck in 1st gear a common problem with these cars????? I know little about cars, but I've got a feeling that I'll learn or hope to win a lottery.

I have a '76 Midget. I have just installed a "Air temp. control valve" but
don't know where the hot air duct goes to. I would guess the exhaust pipe
area. Would like to have a picture of the other end of the hot air duct.

1978 Midget here, I've owned it since I was 15 years old in 2000. Use it as my primary means of transportation -- even when it's 100F+ outside. Rebuilt the engine in 2003, rolling with original paint (only a few knicks and slight fading... people swear that they don't know what I am talking about when complaing about those problems though).

Hello All. New here! Just picked up my first MG's. (1975 Midgets) Yes! 1.5, one good car and one for parts. So far stripped up to the Eng compartment and ready to pull the motor. This is a complete restoration and my first. The MG looked to irresistable and I have a friend who loves his. Anyway. I hope to get good advise in here.

Hey all, I have a 1980 MG midget 1500. I have completely restored body and suspension, and I am working on the interior right now.
I am planning on getting rid of the lever shocks and installing normal shocks.

Also, I am going to put a down payment on a nissan RB20DET engine for this thing. The 1500 engine, has very little power, and with the 4 speed, its not much good on the highway.
The nissan is 205 HP 200ft/lb. 5 speed fuel injected turboed.

Should be fun once I manage to fit it in there.

Have a '70 Midget. Has the lovely A-Series engine (better than that Triumph thing) which I'm in the process of tuning (will probably add a turbocharger to get it to about 110hp)

oh, and to the above poster, you know a Rover K-Series engine will fit into the Midget really easily with hardly any modifications.

I have 75 Midget that I am converting the carb on. I am having trouble getting a wrench on the two bottom nuts that hold the intake and exhaust manifolds on....anyone have experience with this?

Getting those nuts off is a PIA, no matter how you slice it. Use a long box end wrench, and bend the tip in a vice if you have to. That way it reaches pretty well, and you can still get a few turns on it. After the bolts are loose, it's much easier to twist them by hand.

I posted info on my 1980 Midget in another thread. The 1500 can be made to put out decent and reliable power, but the A Series is a much more balanced engine. Putting in a five speed is easier with an A Series as well. Datsun B210 and Ford Sierra trannys work. Putting in anything else will require tunnel surgery and some serious figuring with the driveline.
