'92 Sierra distributor problems!

I'm trying to pull my intake manifold off my '92 Sierra with a 305 v-8. The problem is I cant get the distributor out. I have all the mounting bolts out including the one that holds the fork on the distrtibutor shaft. The intake is loose as I can shake it front and back and side to side.I have been able to pry the shaft up about a 1/4 of an inch.I have the number 1 piston at top dead center on the compression stroke but that sucker wont move.Any suggestions? Thanks Chevy-forever!

Re: '92 Sierra distributor problems!

Sometimes they get a bit stuck in the bore because of buildup around the shaft under the bore, if the holddown plate is off you may have to pry it up with a wide flat prybar under the lip that sits on the manifold, or smack up under the dist housing a bit with a small plastic/rubber hammer, the rotor shaft will spin around a bit as it rides up the curve of the gear.
but there is nothing actually holding the dist in other than the hold down that bolts to the manifold

As you said not much holding it in, may be a seal that is now hardened up also making it harder to get out.

Re: '92 Sierra distributor problems!

Thanks for the advise! I talked to a neighbor who advised me to shoot it with carburator cleaner and leave it overnight.Sure enough it popped right out ther next morning. It looked like there was a build up of carbon sticking it in place. In 30 years of working on my own vehicles I never had this problem. So thanks again!
