1988 Dodge Dakota charging problems

I have a 1988 dodge dakota, 3.9L, 2WD, automatic 6 cylinder. Originally I was getting no charge, turned out to be a fuse link which I replaced, and now my truck is taking a charge. But my problem is, it's taking too much of a charge, it's charging at 18 volts, and when i get out my battery gurgles.. I heard that the voltage regulator was in the brain box... which wouldn't be a good thing, but I was wondering could it be a bad ground somewhere? If so, where? Because if it was the voltage regulator, wouldn't it be a low charge, if any?

The only voltage regulator I have ever changed was charging high. Go to autozone & have them put their tester on your battery first. Once that is verified good they can check your entire charging system & will probably have the parts on hand if anything is bad.

There should be no charge for the diagnostics.
