ABS and TRAC OFF problems

Hi all!

I have this problem with my Windstar.

When I brake while driving slowly just after start (like in the carpark) I hear this klick or tick sound coming from somewhere in the engine compartment.

When i speed up to about 60 km/h (35-40 mph) the ABS and "TRAC OFF" indicators come on, and the clicking noise while breaking disappers. I guess the ABS computer box just gives up.

I have checked the ABS sensors (just ohm-measuring) they were all in spec. Checked the connectors for dirt and oxidation (they were all just fine) Checked all the fuses, the Brake fluid is above Max.. Removed all the sensors and cleaned dust from the sensors and the gear like wheel for the sensors.

I have done just about everything but taken the vehicle to the Ford shop for a OBD-Scan.

Any suggestions before I spend the entire holidy budget at the Ford shop...

Re: ABS and TRAC OFF problems

Hello

Reading the manual I saw that they also wanted the sensors resistance checked at the ABS controller too. This would check the condition of the wiring between the sensors and the controller.

Sorry this is the only idea that I can think of right now. Maybe someone else can chime in.

Regards

Dan

Re: ABS and TRAC OFF problems

Hello,

I have this exact problem, I've had it to the "stealership" twice to have it diagnosed and they say that nothing is wrong. I've just chalked it up to one of the many electrical problems that seem to plague the Windstars. My interior lights also flicker on and off intermittently, this is especially fun when it happens at night!

Re: ABS and TRAC OFF problems

Hello all. One item I can think of is CV axles, has one been changed recently? One tome ring could be stronger than the other.. Maybe... Good luck..
