Unhappy Thinking about getting rid of the Spyder...

What blasphemy! Sigh, I know.

I just can't afford it anymore: paying insurance, registration, maintenance., and gas for two cars is a real kick in the nuts when you don't really have a real job, and I'm burning out. The GT sucks gas like you wouldnt beleive and the DSM is a money pit as it is. Something's gotta give. I also need money for school now that I finally transfered to UC San Diego.

What do you guys think? I need a break from the car world for a bit and concentrate on school. How much do you folks think I could get for it? It has a brand new fully built 6-bolt crate motor (head and block) with around 3000 miles on it, a big 16G, and a bunch of other goodies. I'm thinking at least $10,000 considering the money I've dumped into this thing, but I doubt the market has any regard for that...

Gimme some feedback, and I may have it listed soon. I feel like crying...

Re: Thinking about getting rid of the Spyder...

NOOOOO!!! Anything but the Shpyder!!! You're a good looking man, sell yourself on the street. I bet you could turn a couple hundred a night. Shit, I would sell myself so you can keep that car. I can hardly bear to think of what some little fuckhead would do to it. I suppose if you gotta you gotta though. I would ask like 16k-18k. That car is gorgeous, if I had money for it, I would absolutely drop it on that car.

Re: Thinking about getting rid of the Spyder...

Why don't you just store the car for a while? Drop the insurance to non-driving, it costs relatively nothing. That way you don't have to give it up.

Re: Thinking about getting rid of the Spyder...

Don't do it cause like Stev said no one will respect it, someone will buy it and abuse it and all your time and energy down the drain. And wait a minute you said a break from the car world....are you resigning from the Mod rank?

Re: Thinking about getting rid of the Spyder...

who cares, sell it, its your car and you can do with it what you please. So what if someone gets it and beats it, its a turbo car...what do you expect... DSM is by far the worse money pit i've ever encountered.. sell it and buy an SI or just keep the gt. just look at it this way, you sell it, you ahve 10,000$ + cash.... its kinda retarted if you buy a dsm and your a young kid.. number one you work 40- 50 hrs a week and dump every penny into the car and it still diss's ya in the future. I sold my talon, got what i wanted and the kid totaled it 3 days later! thats his damn problem....

et tu shpyder?

Dont worry, if you sell it the hurting only lasts a couple minutes, then you realize you have plenty of extra cash to burn on better things.

I'd buy it in an instant. Ship it out to Chicago and the money will be yours. Seriously. I want it.

Re: Thinking about getting rid of the Spyder...

The thing is, I can always come back into the DSM world. And no, I'm not giving up my mod status: I'd miss this place too much and you guys are a lot of fun to be around. I love these cars to death, but reality bites: with university just around the corner, I do need some cash, and simply cannot afford to keep the DSM.

The fact is, that I have gone WAY overboard with this car. Somewhere along the lines, I screwed up my priorities. It was my daily driver, and suddenly, I felt uncomfortable driving it every day with all the dough I had dumped into it. And that 6-bolt?! Holy shit folks, I paid SBR $7000 for the entire thing, including the swap kit. I don't even drive that crazy, nor do I race. But I felt that I needed the cammed and ported Stage III head, with the upgraded springs and retainers, etc. Sigh. And all I really needed was a plain $1000 6-bolt. I think it was an ego thing.

I was thinking about that before. Doing a PNO on it and have it sit in the garage. But I do need the money. This is where I wish I would have saved something instead of dumping, literally, every single paycheck into the car. Sigh, but every drive and comment make it worth all the effort. It is bittersweet. I had big plans for it: making it AWD with a diff from a GSX donor, and doing the fuel system and a TRE tranny. I will get this done to another lucky spyder some day, once I'm out of school and earning a bomb. I hope.

What should I ask for it? I know I would not want less than $10,000, simply because of the brand new motor. Forget the labor and all the other things on it. The car is not flawless, but it is certainly in excellent condition. I am fully aware that I can never get even remotely close the money I have invested in it. But I have to draw the line between it's worth to me, and it's worth as cash.

Also, I wanted to advertise on the forums before anywhere else. It's a DSM, and other people don't realize what that entails. It basically says, "be prepared for expenditure upon ownership". Though the car is running great, I wouldnt want to sell it to someone who does not know that these things are money pits, or to someone who's looking to buy this as a daily driver. I'm not here to rip anyone off, and I just want people to know what they are getting into. I've poured my heart and soul into this car since the past 3 years, every paycheck. And I've tolerated it's breaking down on me here and there without a frown. I'm not so sure a new owner not cognisant of the way these cars run would be so forgiving. In the end, I would want another DSMer to own it.

I'd love to, but all my MILF's have my schedule all booked.

Re: Thinking about getting rid of the Spyder...

In Canada a car that has less than your car EXCEPT a 60-1 is selling for 25,000. It actually might be worth it to look into to selling over the border. Get about twice your asking price in the states.

Re: Thinking about getting rid of the Spyder...

I think you could get 10,000 for it easy. And you don't have to leave the community really. Once you sell it just pick up a 1g AWD car and do light mods to it. Nothing big, and you can still have a dsm

Re: Thinking about getting rid of the Spyder...

I second storeing it somewhere without coverage on it.

If not, and you really NEED to sell it, david-b just offered to buy it.

Either way, I feel for you man. Some things are just more important than others. Good luck.
