failed emissions again HELP

Well my jdm crx sir just failed emissions again. I changed the cat, plugs and had the rest of the car checked for timing and fuel pressure. It all checked out OK. I ran the car with no air filter because the one i had was horribly clogged and I could not find one that fit. I tried integra, del sol and all civics and none were the same size as my crx. It did do better than the first time but not well enough. The hydrocarbos were as follows

1st test 2nd test maximum to pass
Hydrocarbons: 3.20 1.28 1.00
Carbon monoxide 56.61 37.33 12.00
It has all the emssions controls needed to pass. Whoever had it first made it legal and has everything like o2 sensors and stuff. I was told it is running rich. ANY AND ALL INPUT PLEASE.

Re: failed emissions again HELP

Ok guys, i just looked at the ECU because i had i wierd feeling. It turns out that I have a 1st generation spoon ECU with an adjustable vtec controller. The vtec controller is a knob type and not digital. How much more fuel does the spoon ECU dump? I was told I was running rich. What ECU do i need to get to run right. It is a 1st generation b16. Please help anyone. I live in phoenix az and just need to borrow the ECU to do my emissions testing. PLEASE HELP PEOPLE

Re: failed emissions again HELP

hydrocarbons are unburn fuel, which would be your fuel problem. Then can be caused from a missfire or a lean mixture in general, but your o2 reading would then be low.

Carbon Monoxide should be getting changed from the catalyst into carbon dioxide.

You might want to change your cat.

You're fule problem could easily be coming from the ecu, try to get a stock pw0 or pr5.

If anything not having a air filter is going to lean out your mixture.

In PA if you have spent up to 150 dollars in replacement parts to get your car to pass you can ask for a waiver which will be good until the next year.

If you're in Phoenix, you're in luck. Contact Joe at Hasport, I'm sure he can get you the right ECU for your swap (PR3 or PW0). Hasports number is 602-470-0065.
