Changing thermostat question

My OEM stock thermostat is stuck open and I'm going to change it to a 180 degree thermostat this weekend... It's a 3.8L motor...

Do I need to drain out any coolant before I remove the old t'stat?

Do I need to bleed air out of the system after I install the new t'stat?

Re: Changing thermostat question

And what is the proper procedure to bleed the air out of the cooling system on the 3.8L motor?

Re: Changing thermostat question

Just drain out enough where you get coolant out of the upper radiator hose. If you are careful and do not contaminate the drained coolant you can reuse it.

Highly recommended to bleed the coolling system. Use the air bleeder valve on the thermostat housing. I bring the engine up to full operating temperature to make sure the thermostat opens before bleeding. You may want to repeat it a few times. Also, getting the radiator above the engine helps bleeding air out. I park the car on an incline. Good luck!

What about the 3.5 engine? Same bleeding procedure?

Welcome to AF.

Sorry but this is an old thread and has been closed. Just start a new post addressing your question/issue since you have the 3.5L engine.
