Blaupunkt stereo problem

My brother has an '03 Focus with the Blaupunkt mp3/cd stereo. Recently the stereo power started going on and off about every 3 seconds and will not stop even with the key out of the ignition. It was disconnected for 24 hours but did the same thing when hooked up again. It also did not lose any preset stations while unhooked which I don't understand. Has anyone heard of this before? Is there a reset button somewhere on the unit I can press to clear everything? Any help is appreciated.

Re: Blaupunkt stereo problem

I had this same issue, and I hope that this reply comes to you in time to really help. When I called Ford, they told me it would cost me $400 to have the unit replaced--too bad, so sad, nothing we can do about it. Blaupunkt told me that they had nothing to do with the stereos once they were installed by Ford, again effectively telling me that I was SOL.

I've been posting this where ever I can because I can't believe that there are so many people who have had this issue and can't find the answer. The Ford manual that came with my car even talks about this and sort of tells you how to fix it, except it leaves out step 2 below and without that second step their instructions don't work.

1. insert a CD into the stereo
2. disconnect the power (pull the fuse)
3. reconnect the power
--the stereo will read the CD and will stop cycling off and on
4. use the menu buttons to chose defult reset

The stereo should then wipe the preset memory, but will now function properly.

Good luck.

Yeah, I know. This is something that I need to work on.

I haven't mastered time travel yet and was only able to post a reply as soon as I came across the question...

i just purchased a used 2003 ford focus zx5 and that happened to the radio. i don't know alot about cars, only know how to drive them so this is gonna sound like a stupid question but does the car have to be on when you take the fuse out? i thought about taking the fuse out today, but hesitated. i knew i'd find some kinda help through the internet somewhere.
