2001 Yukon SLE rear lift gate clamp broken

I just bought a 2001 GMC Yukon SLE and the rear lift gate clamp on the right side is broken. This is the one which opens just the glass and not the entire lift gate.

I was wondering if any of you have had this problem? I read up on the other reviews and found that it is a fairly common problem. I wanted to know how you go about fixing it and what have you guys done...

All replies will be appreciated and as always thanks for the all the knowledge base in here..

same problem with my '01 SLT. we've owned it since '02 & it was fine for the first 2 years, then stopped working with no incident to cause it...

Re: 2001 Yukon SLE rear lift gate clamp broken

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. How did you fix it. I am still driving it like that and don't use the lift gate I use the entire gate to open and close, but I would like to get it fixed. I was thinking of going to a place where they do windshield and windows repaired and asking them to glue it back right with the epoxy the use.

Let me know how you went about fixing it, if you have done it already.

Don't believe there is a fix. New glass the only option. Bad design.

Re: 2001 Yukon SLE rear lift gate clamp broken

There is a fix and it's FREE!!!!!

Take your Yukon to the dealer, yes I know it's out of warranty, and tell them that you want a goodwill replacement of the rear glass/hinges because you know it's a common problem due to defective design. They will take it up with their district service rep and next thing you know you'll have new glass with the newer designed hinges. I did this about 1.5 years ago in TX, and told my brother who also did it in SC.

Same with the parking brake defect, might as well ask for that while it's in the shop. The defect is that the parking brake rear drums wear out even if you don't use it and it will fail inspection. There's a bracket that can be added.

Then there's the steering intermediate shaft that's been redesigned, don't be shy!
